It all started over a century ago as labor movements in North America and Europe during the early 20th century.
Today, International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on March 8, all over the world, bringing attention to issues such as gender equality, violence and abuse against women and celebrating women’s achievements in Economics, Politics and Culture among several arenas.
What saddens me the most is the fact that women need to ask for their rights, to protect themselves against brutality and injustice. Some say “A woman is a pillar of the society” but I say women are “The Main Pillar of societies”. It is her who bears, raises, educates, cares for the society. She is the mother, the sister, the wife, the daughter, the aunt, the friend, the colleague, she is whatever she wants to be… or whatever that same society allows her to be.
I’ve had the honor to host an event on International Women’s Day on March 8th to celebrate women and their achievements at Ôtrottoir, an amazing Lebanese Bistro Bar in Achrafieh, Lebanon. Attended by family, friends, and other women I’ve met for the first time, the event gave me a sense of joy, pride and satisfaction.
The suit I wore that night had a very motivating message on the cuffs, it read: “You only fail when you stop trying” and I couldn’t have said it better on that occasion. A first unsuccess isn’t a failure, a second unsuccess isn’t a failure, but stopping to try definitely is.
So never give up.
Be fearless.
Do whatever you believe in.
Follow your dreams.
Challenge yourself.
Break the bias.
Be the woman you want to be!
